This dramatic painting of the 1889 Johnstown Flood is very well done. The composition shows the earthy, naturalistic horrors experienced during the flood. Subtle symbolism such as the “cross” shaped piece of housing debris in the foreground and the Franklin Street United Methodist Church (one of the few buildings that survived the flood) in the background make this a one of a kind treasure.
