Cole was originally from London, he travelled and painted views of the Broads in Norfolk and Sussex counties (flooded Medieval peat excavations), Hampshire on the English Channel and at Burnham Beeches, Buckinghamshire, among others. A successful artist, he exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts and the Society of British Artists at the original Suffolk Street location (London).
