Hill was a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania physician; however, there is little biographical information available for him. Nothing is known of his art training; however, a newspaper account in the May 13, 1869 edition of the Philadelphia Daily Evening Bulletin regarded him as a “celebrated artist.” This is supported by there are records of him having exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1849.
